Navigating the wilderness and foraging plant life for medicine and food are critical elements of survival.

PLANT WALK (9-11 AM // $20/person)

Take a walk on the wild side with American Survival Co. Trek through the woods and around our War Eagle, AR base camp with our expert survival instructor, identifying edible and medicinal plants that are readily available in your area. Learn the benefits and modern uses for these plants, as well as how indigenous cultures used common weeds as essential medicine and cooking ingredients. You will leave with valuable knowledge of everyday plants that can be brought into your kitchens and medicine cabinets.

11:30am – 12:30pm: Lunch Break

Most of us didn’t grow up with a knife in hand, whittling tools and creature comforts from the landscape out of necessity. Knife skills are disappearing and becoming an under-appreciated skill. This class is fantastic for all experience and skill levels.

We will cover a range of skills from:

  • knife and ax safety
  • batoning
  • useful saw techniques and safety
  • biomechanics of knife use (how to use your knife more efficiently when calories count)

Knife skills seem simple…take the sharp edge, remove wood, try not to cut yourself. Like most bushcraft and survival skills, the devil is in the details. This workshop will provide you the training to effectively and safely use sharp cutting tools in the field.

The instructors have a knack for gauging your experience level and giving you appropriately challenging tasks to progress your skills. This is done from varying projects from tent stakes to wooden spoons and netting needles. No prior experience needed, but if it is there, you will be challenged.

Recommended Equipment/Materials:

  • Food for meals & snacks
  • Water (there is a well on site, but well water is an acquired taste)
  • Bug spray, sunscreen
  • Fixed blade full tang knife and any knives you would like to use during the knife course

Am I responsible for my own food and water? Yes, bring enough food and water for at least one day. We do have access to a kitchen and refrigerator for food storage.

Will I have cell phone service? Cell phone service can be spotty once we start navigating the wilderness.

What is the bathroom situation? Port-a-Potties are available onsite.

Is smoking and alcohol allowed? Smoking is allowed, alcohol is prohibited

Should I tip my instructor? Tipping is common in this industry, but please don’t feel pressured to do so. If you feel that your instructor has gone above and beyond to provide you a quality class and you would like to tip them, it will be greatly appreciated.
