Adventure into beautiful Costa Rica, home to 5% of the Earth’s biodiversity, with rainforests and pristine shorelines to explore. In this 11-day survival adventure you will be immersed in the beauty of Costa Rica’s raw wilderness, learning both jungle and coastal survival.


Arrive in San Jose. Transfer to hotel provided. Enjoy the evening in San Jose (but not too much, we start training tomorrow.)


Travel to Sierpe (4 hours by van) and then travel by sea Drake Bay (1 hr). Arrive at base camp in in drake bay where you will spend the nightat Bijagua Lodge, meet your adventure instructors and receive a mandatory briefing.

As we head deeper into the jungle, on day 3 we will cover arrange of topics

  • Bamboo Fire Saw
  • Bamboo Camp Ware
  • Tilon Rat Trap
  • Bamoo Spear
  • Night River Scouting & Nocturnal Wildlife Observation

DAYS 4 & 5

  • Embark on two full days of jungle survival, covering the following topics
  • Water Procurement: Water Vines and Water from Royal Palm Fruit
  • Shelter Making – Swamp Bed
  • Proper Machete Handling – Learn to proper handle and care for the most important tool in jungle survival
  • Cordage in the Jungle
  • Building a Larine in the Jungle
  • Wild Edibles and Scouting


Escape the jungle and head back to base camp to prepare yourself for insertion to the coast. We will head o the Jaguar Jungle Hostel by boast and establish base camp for the night at the beach.

DAYS 7 & 8

  • Dive in to coastal survival training for the next two days, learning the following topics
  • Survival Fishing (Trout Lines)
  • Wild Edibles and The Field
  • Water Procurement
  • Trapping
  • Coastal Edibles
  • Spear Fishing (weather permitting)
  • Night Scouting


Depart by Sea early for San Jose where you will spend the evening.

Day 10

Depart early for La Fortuna to enjoy more thrills of Costa Rica like hot water springs, shopping, lunch near Areal Volcano and more. Return to San Jose.

Depart for Airport.

DO NOT BRING: Firearms or camoflauge clothing (Solid color clothing like olive green, dark gray, and tan are fine. No shirts and pants of the same color)

Recommended Equipment/Materials:

  • Passport and medications (14 day supply)
  • Wide-brimmed hat
  • Polarized sunglasses
  • Boots should be above hte ankle and well-broken in
  • Fixed blade hunting or survival knife (pack in checked luggage, not in carry on)
  • Canteen – 1 or 2 quart
  • 3 pairs of socks for the bush (not cotton)
  • 2 light weight, long sleeve, quick drying shirts for the bush
  • 2 light weight, long, wuick drying slacks (convertible are grea)
  • 3 MREs with heaters
  • Machete (pack in checked luggage)
  • Sleeping system (jungle hammock with tarp)
  • Water pruification system (filter or tablets)
  • Full finger gloves
  • Heavy duty poncho
  • Minimal toiletries for the bush (avoid scented producs like deodorant, aftershave, lotion soaps). We suggest only a toothbrush, toothpaste or tooth powder, small unscented bar of soap, disposable razor, small bottoe of rubbing alcohol or alcohol pads, aspirin packets, imodium tablets, lip balm, talcum powder, wash clth, salt packets and a small mirror all in a water proof bag.
  • Medium alice backpack or even a lumbar pack is enough
  • Flashlight with new batteries, bring extra batteries
  • Assorted sizes of zip lock bags o keep things dry
  • Mosquito head net
  • 50 ft of paracord
  • Mosquito repellant of 30% deet or higher
  • Notebook and pen for notes, small enough to fit in pocket
  • 2 small hand towels
  • Camera (waterproof casing recommended)
  • Salt Tablets
  • Potassium tablets
  • Fire starting kit
  • Signal mirror
  • Survival fishing kit

Refunds and credits are provided based on the following:

  • 30+ days 75% of workshop price returned (per person) or 100% in store credit (valid for 60 days)
  • 29 to 15 days 50% of workshop price returned (per person) or 100% in store credit (valid for 60 days)
  • 14-5 days 25% of workshop price returned (per person) or 75% in store credit (valid for 60 days)
  • 5 days or less 0% of workshop price returned (per person) or 50% in store credit (valid for 60 days)
  • If you do not cancel (we receive no written notification) and you do not show up there is no refund orstore credit available. You must call ahead to cancel.
