NW Arkansas – Knots & Knife Skills class
June 22 @ 9:00 am - 3:30 pm$45.00
This course will start wife knife safety and knife skills. We often see in our classes that students may be comfortable wielding a knife in the kitchen to slice tomatoes but when it’s time to use a blade for a utility purpose or for crafting detailed items where precision is important, they are quickly out of their comfort zone. During knife safety and knife skills, we’ll cover the cardinal rules of knife safety, safe carrying methods, knife education (why do some knives cost $35 but others cost as much as $300 or more?), proper sharpening techniques, choosing the right knife for the right job, proper cutting & carving techniques, saw safety and axe safety. At the end of the knife Skills and Safety portion of the day, you’ll use your newfound skills to craft a primitive hunting tool that you can take home with you!
During the “Knots” portion of the class, we’ll show you the knots that we regularly use in the wilderness, for securing loads in the back of a vehicle or trailer and for shelters. The knots we teach are super practical for frequent use and will not only save you time tying but it will also save your rope/cordage by not having to cut out those impossible to untie knots (especially after they’ve been under a stress load). We’ll finish this portion of the class by having you use your newfound knot knowledge to set up multiple shelter types including hammock tarps as well as multiple setups for tarp camping.
This is a fun class for the whole family, and you’ll leave with new gained practical knowledge that you’ll use for the rest of your life!
