  2. Bow Drill Friction Fire: Master the art of fire starting using the time-honored bow drill technique. Learn the fundamentals of wood selection, bow construction, and proper technique to create fire from friction alone. Harness the power of ancient knowledge to ignite your survival spirit.
  3. Multiple Fire Lays: Explore different fire lay techniques to suit various survival scenarios.  You’ll grasp the principles behind each method and gain hands-on experience in building and maintaining fires in diverse conditions.
  4. Primitive Shelters: Unleash your inner architect as you construct your own shelter using materials found in the wilderness. Learn how to select suitable locations, gather natural resources, and build sturdy structures that provide protection from the elements while maximizing comfort and insulation.
  5. Knots: Master essential knots that are invaluable in survival situations. From securing shelters and creating traps to organizing gear and crafting tools, you’ll acquire a repertoire of versatile knots and hitches to handle a wide range of challenges.
  6. Primitive Traps: Uncover the art of primitive trapping and enhance your ability to procure food in the wild. From the clever spring pole snare to the effective deadfall and ingenious bird traps, you’ll learn to set traps with precision, increasing your chances of a successful catch.
  7. Atlatls: Delve into the world of ancient weaponry as you learn to make your own atlatl and darts! The atlatl is a prehistoric spear-throwing device. You’ll discover the mechanics of this powerful tool, practice accurate throws, and gain the skills needed to hunt with this primitive weapon.

Note: This course focuses on primitive methods. Participants should be prepared for physically demanding activities and outdoor conditions.

  • Folding chairs
  • Comfortable outdoor clothing
  • Boots (required)
  • Sunglasses
  • Rain gear
  • Bug / tick spray
  • Flashlights (headlamps)
  • Tent / hammock / sleeping gear, etc.
  • Food & Cooler, snacks, gatorade, etc.
  • Water bottle (there will be a water refill station on site)
  • Fixed-blade knife
  • Folding saw (as long as a couple students have these, they can be shared with the group)
  • Gloves (Required)
  • Sunscreen
  • Note pad & pen / pencil

Note: Feel free to bring any survival gear you own but haven’t yet tried out. This is a great time to test out water filtration systems, etc. that you may have stored in your bug-out bag.

There will be a porta-potty on location.

The historical War Eagle Mill is less than a mile from our base camp. It is a great place to check out and they have all sorts of goods for sale in their gift shop from their traditional milling process done on site.
They also have a sandwich shop upstairs.
