Wilderness Survival and Fishing

You’ve found yourself stranded in the wilderness, it happens to more than 2,000 people every year. Do you have the skills to survive? Wilderness Survival and Fishing takes you through the four basic necessities of survival: shelter, water, fire and food with an extra emphasis on sustenance fishing and modern fishing techniques. Students will explore multiple fire methods, covering how to make fire at night and in different shelter types. They will also learn water procurement and filtration, as well as becoming familiar with local plant life that can be beneficial for nutrition or medicine.

In this class you will learn about Cast-net fishing, one of the more sustainable methods of recreational or sport fishing. A cast net is usually small enough to be operated by one person. It is round or oval, and can be thrown, or cast, over a large area. Weights on the side of the net help it sink, catching any sea creatures inside.
